Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA)
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator to join our team on a 6+ month, ongoing contract (C2C or W2). This is a fully remote role working East Coast hours. You will own the health, performance and availability of production PostgreSQL environments running on Azure and virtual server infrastructure, from installation and upgrades through backup, replication, failover and tuning. The ideal candidate will have deep PostgreSQL and Oracle DBA experience, strong Linux and scripting skills, and a solid grasp of database security and DevOps practices. Participation in on-call production support is required, and you will work closely with development teams on database design and application performance. Requirements • Strong experience administering PostgreSQL 11+ • Expertise in SQL, PL/pgSQL, query optimization and execution plans • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL replication, failover, clustering, HA and DR • Experience with Azure Database for PostgreSQL and Azure / VM environments • Experience with pgBackRest, Barman or WAL-G, plus pgAdmin, pg_stat_statements, Prometheus and Grafana • Strong Oracle DBA experience • Linux administration (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu) and scripting in Shell, Python or Bash • Knowledge of database security, encryption, roles, privileges and auditing • Knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) • Availability for on-call production support as required • Any valid U.S. work authorization except H1B and CPT
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, upgrade, maintain and monitor PostgreSQL databases
- Perform SQL tuning and database performance optimization
- Manage backup, recovery, restoration, replication and failover
- Troubleshoot locking, deadlocks, replication and performance issues
- Support migrations, upgrades and patching with minimal downtime
- Handle capacity planning and storage management
- Automate routine DBA tasks
- Partner with development teams on database design and application performance
- Maintain database documentation and operational procedures
