Senior AI Engineer (Azure OpenAI / LangGraph / RAG)
Job Description
The OperAxis team is seeking a Senior AI Engineer for a 20-month contract in Plano, TX (100% onsite, standard business hours). Only candidates local to Plano, TX will be considered, and this position is W2 only. You will design and build AI-powered microservices, enterprise-grade RAG and Graph RAG solutions, and agentic workflows on Microsoft Azure, working with product, engineering and business teams to deliver production-ready AI solutions. The ideal candidate has 8+ years of software engineering with strong Python expertise, deep hands-on experience with Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI and Semantic Kernel/LangGraph, and a proven record of shipping GenAI agents and multi-agent systems with rigorous evaluation and monitoring. Requirements: - Must have: Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI Service, Semantic Kernel and LangGraph - Must have: Neo4j or another graph database, and a vector database (Azure AI Search, Pinecone, Weaviate or Qdrant) - Must have: Kubernetes, Docker, and GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps - 8+ years of software engineering with strong Python expertise - Experience building scalable, secure, production-grade microservices and APIs with FastAPI or similar Python frameworks - Experience with MongoDB/NoSQL database design, optimization and data modeling - Hands-on experience with GenAI agents, multi-agent systems and autonomous workflows - Experience with RAG architectures, including Knowledge RAG, Graph RAG, hybrid and context-aware retrieval - Experience with LLMs and SLMs: model selection, prompt engineering, grounding, fine-tuning and inference optimization - Experience with agentic evaluation (e.g., DeepEval) and AI observability and monitoring (Arize AI) - Preferred: LangChain or LlamaIndex, MLOps/LLMOps and model lifecycle management, and Agile product development - W2 only; must be local to Plano, TX Responsibilities: - Design and develop scalable AI-powered microservices and APIs using Python and FastAPI - Build and maintain enterprise-grade RAG and Graph RAG solutions - Develop agentic workflows that use organizational knowledge and business context - Optimize knowledge retrieval, context orchestration and response quality - Implement evaluation and monitoring with DeepEval and Arize - Deploy, monitor and maintain AI applications on Azure - Collaborate with product, engineering and business teams to deliver production-ready AI solutions
