Senior Data Engineer (Microsoft Fabric & Power BI)
Job Description
The OperAxis team is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for a 7-month contract with a payments and fintech client in O'Fallon, MO (hybrid, onsite presence required). Candidates local to O'Fallon, MO only. You will lead the transformation of enterprise reporting and analytics onto Power BI and Microsoft Fabric, designing, building and governing modern data platforms and migrating legacy Domo and Tableau reporting to Power BI. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of data engineering, analytics engineering or BI experience, 3+ years of hands-on Power BI work, and deep knowledge of Microsoft Fabric. Requirements: - Must have: Data Engineering, ETL, Power BI, Python and SQL - 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering or BI - 3+ years of Power BI experience, including semantic modeling, DAX, data modeling and report optimization - Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric: OneLake, Data Factory, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Spark Notebooks, Real-Time Intelligence and Data Agents - Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) - Strong SQL and data modeling skills - Experience with Power Apps and Power Automate - Knowledge of data governance, metadata management and data quality practices - Experience enabling AI/ML use cases in Fabric - Strong communication and stakeholder management skills - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field - Microsoft Azure or Fabric certifications are a plus Responsibilities: - Lead the transformation of enterprise reporting and analytics onto Power BI and Microsoft Fabric - Lead the migration of legacy Domo and Tableau reporting to Power BI - Define and document Fabric design patterns and best practices - Design, build and govern modern data platforms and ETL/ELT pipelines - Build semantic models and optimize Power BI reports for performance - Establish data governance, metadata and data quality standards - Enable AI/ML capabilities within the Fabric platform - Partner with business and technology stakeholders to deliver reporting solutions
