Senior Java Fullstack Developer / Lead (SME)

Job Description

Senior Java fullstack engineer with confirmed lead experience wanted for a 12 month contract to hire role with a major financial services client in Whippany, NJ. Hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote. You will write production Java and Spring Boot code daily, own microservices end to end, and work directly with senior managers and product stakeholders on requirements and design. Lead experience is required; you must have formally led a team or been the technical lead on a project, not just informally mentored. This is a hands on SME/lead role; you should be writing code, reviewing pull requests, and driving technical decisions, not architecting from a distance. TDD or BDD practice is required, not optional. We expect to see JUnit, Mockito, Cucumber, or equivalent frameworks used in your day to day workflow. Financial services domain background is preferred but not a deal breaker. What matters more: depth of hands on Java and Spring Boot work, evidence of microservices design and delivery in production, confirmed lead tenure, and the ability to communicate clearly with senior non engineer stakeholders. Open to candidates on any visa with a minimum of 2 years validity remaining. Relocation supported; hybrid onsite presence is mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Design and build Java and Spring Boot microservices for production financial services applications
• Lead a team of engineers as the technical lead; set direction on design decisions, code standards, and delivery timelines
• Drive code reviews, pair programming sessions, and technical mentorship for junior and mid level engineers
• Partner with senior managers and product stakeholders on requirements, trade offs, and design decisions
• Own features end to end, from design through deployment and post release monitoring
• Write unit and integration tests following TDD and BDD practices using JUnit, Mockito, and Cucumber
• Contribute to architecture decisions for new services and refactors of existing ones
• Participate in on call rotations and production incident response as needed
