PostgreSQL Senior SME / Architect
Job Description
We are seeking a PostgreSQL Senior SME / Architect to lead enterprise database modernization on a remote contract. You will set target-state PostgreSQL architecture and guide large heterogeneous migrations from Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, Sybase and other RDBMS platforms to PostgreSQL and Aurora PostgreSQL on AWS. The ideal candidate will have 12+ years across database engineering, administration, architecture and migration, deep hands-on AWS database experience, and the consulting presence to advise customer architects and program leadership. One in-person interview is required at Hartford, CT; Dallas, TX; Edison, NJ; or Bellevue, WA. Requirements • 12+ years of database engineering, administration, architecture and migration experience • Expert PostgreSQL architecture, administration, PL/pgSQL, schema design, indexing, partitioning, tuning, backup/recovery, security and monitoring • Hands-on Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS DMS, AWS SCT, CloudWatch, Performance Insights, IAM, KMS, S3 and VPC networking • Strong heterogeneous migration experience: assessment, schema conversion, data migration, validation, reconciliation and cutover planning • Scripting and automation with SQL, PL/SQL, shell, Python and Git • HA/DR architecture implementation in AWS • Strong consulting, stakeholder management, documentation and mentoring skills • Preferred: migration factory models, PostgreSQL landing zones, application modernization impacts and presales/RFP solutioning • Open to USC, H1B, H4 EAD, TN and L2S candidates
Responsibilities
- Lead PostgreSQL target-state architecture, migration strategy and modernization planning
- Drive heterogeneous migrations to PostgreSQL / Aurora PostgreSQL
- Guide schema conversion, data migration, CDC, validation, reconciliation and production cutover
- Define best practices for design, indexing, partitioning, replication, backup/recovery, security and monitoring
- Work with architects, DBAs, application, cloud, DevOps and security teams to resolve technical risks
- Create architecture documents, assessment reports, migration runbooks and cutover plans
- Prepare risk summaries and handover documentation
- Mentor engineering teams and review solution designs
- Support presales/RFP inputs and provide PostgreSQL modernization thought leadership
