Staff AI Engineer - Content Velocity

Staff AI Engineer – Content Velocity 1-year contract (likely to extend) | Remote within the United States We are hiring Staff AI Engineers to design, build, and operate production AI systems that support NBCUniversal broadcast, streaming, and content workflows. This role sits with Operations & Technology Solutions Architecture and focuses on reliable, event-driven backend systems plus practical production AI. Two alignment tracks • Content Velocity: generative image models, diffusion, computer vision, vision-language models, agent tools/guardrails for creating or editing visual and marketing assets • Mural: search and retrieval over large media libraries, including lexical + vector search and multimodal video, audio, image, and speech pipelines What you will do • Build and maintain scalable backend microservices in Python and FastAPI, deployed as serverless infrastructure • Design event-driven, distributed workflows for high-volume job orchestration using queues, streams, and cloud-native services (for example EventBridge, queues, DynamoDB streams) • Develop tools, constraints, and deterministic functions that AI agents use to edit visual assets • Integrate models on owned infrastructure for inference and integrate third-party AI endpoints • Contribute Terraform to provision and manage cloud resources across environments • Write robust unit and end-to-end tests for standard APIs and AI agent outputs • Work with Engineering and QA to diagnose and fix production issues quickly • Participate in daily standups, Scrum ceremonies, and standard engineering workflows Must-have experience • 7+ years of professional software engineering • Strong modern Python • Hands-on production experience in at least one major cloud: AWS preferred, then Azure or GCP • Practical experience integrating LLMs into software applications, including inference endpoints, context windows, and parsing model output • Experience with Terraform or similar IaC • Experience building production AI applications, not only prototypes • Strong communication skills and comfort explaining technical tradeoffs to product and business stakeholders Preferred • AI agents, orchestration, and distributed systems • Event-driven / serverless architecture in production • Generative image, diffusion, computer vision, or vision-language work • Search, embeddings, and ranking over large content or media libraries • Broadcast, media, or video content-management workflows • FastAPI, AWS event-driven services, and modern backend orchestration • Agile delivery and rigorous code review How to apply Please send: 1. Responsibilities
